Alnico V is really the most popular magnet here. This is the most versatile magnet of them all. Prominent treble response and a strong bass response. For the longest time, this magnet was the strongest of the group. Fully magnetized “Un-Oriented” Alnico 5 cast bar magnet. For 6 string humbuckers and P-90’s. One end of the magnet is painted two red lines to distinguish the magnet grade. (2.444” long x 0.500” wide x 0.125” thick)

Alnico V pickups usually sound hotter and more ‘edgy’ than their Alnico II and III counterparts. They’re great at more aggressive tones and in situations where you need a little more ‘unity’ in your chords: notes may knit together a little more tightly when you’re chording through heavy distortion with an Alnico V pickup. It’s also a little warmer in the midrange, which makes it great for lead guitar.

Alnico 5 – Likely the most popular magnet material, Alnico 5 shows up in both humbucking and single coils designs; Strats, Teles, and P-90’s. Alnico 5 pickups are characterized by strong output, clear tone, and punchy attack. This all sounds pretty good, and just about every conventionally constructed Stratocaster pickup uses Alnico 5. Some of most popular humbuckers use Alnico 5 including many Seymour Duncan models including the SH-1, JB,  and just about every Rio Grande pickup. Compared to Alnico 3 they may lack a little sonic complexity, but for those about to rock, Alnico 5 is a very good choice.
